Preserving the Heart of the Bootheel

Organized in 1835, Stoddard County honors Amos Stoddard, the first American commandant of Upper Louisiana. We are famously known as the birthplace of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper, first printed here in 1861, and home to a deep regional Civil War heritage.
